5 Biden Admin Claims That Aged Like Milk
President Biden going back on his pledge not to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, prompted Daily Signal columnist Tony Kinnett to catalog other dubious Biden administration claims. (X)
Inflation claim: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in 2021 characterized inflation as “transitory.” The same year, Biden said the increase in prices was “temporary.”
The reality: Earlier this year, Yellen said she regretted using the term “transitory” to describe inflation, which remained high years after her initial statement but has cooled over the past year. The U.S. inflation rate was higher last year than it was in 2020.
Afghanistan withdrawal claim: In August 2021, Biden called the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan an “extraordinary success.”
The reality: The State Department's 2023 report on the withdrawal found poor planning and coordination by both the Trump and Biden administrations contributed to the chaotic evacuation, which left 13 U.S. service members and at least 170 Afghan civilians dead in a suicide bombing at Kabul airport, failed to extract thousands of at-risk Afghans and exposed significant weaknesses in crisis preparation and interagency coordination.
Border claims: The Washington Free Beacon counted at least 17 instances between January 2021 and September 2022 where Biden officials insisted the southern border was secure.
The reality: Last December, illegal border crossings from Mexico reached record levels.
Biden’s age claims: The White House has repeatedly dismissed claims Biden lacks the mental fitness to do his job. In February, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quoted First Lady Jill Biden as saying: “President Biden does more in one hour than most people do in a day.” Then, ahead of Biden’s presidential debate against Donald Trump in June, the White House claimed social media videos appearing to show Biden’s cognitive decline were “cheap fakes.”
The reality: This happened…

Supporters of the institutions, of the status quo and the party that has come to champion those things (aka the Democrats) have often argued that whatever Dems’ faults, unlike Trump, they followed the rules, they upheld the system. The not so subtle implication was that their party — the party of democracy and acting through the proper channels — held the moral high ground. But as Biden’s latest actions have proven, politics is seldom that black or white.
